EOLA-AMITY HILLS AVA
ORGANIC FARMING IN TRANSITION
Nestled in the heart of the Eola-Amity Hills, Witness Tree Vineyard spans 105 acres along the coveted Spring Valley Road, neighboring esteemed sites like Cristom, Spirit Hill, and Temperance Hill. Originally planted decades ago, the vineyard underwent a major transformation following its 2017 purchase, with approximately 90% of the site replanted under the guidance of world-renowned viticulturist Ryan Hannaford. Today, 53.35 acres are fully planted and producing, featuring Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and a single, choice block of Aligoté. The vineyard is divided into three distinct sections, each varying in elevation and soil composition, allowing for precise farming tailored to varietal and clonal diversity.
Facing east, with multiple volcanic-soil benches, Witness Tree benefits from the cooling Van Duzer winds that define the region’s microclimate. A comprehensive terroir analysis led by geologist Pedro Parra and Hannaford’s team has laid the foundation for farming excellence. While the vineyard’s full potential is still unfolding, its future is bright—hinging on a steadfast commitment to organic practices and meticulous vineyard management. With the right dedication from ownership and producers, Witness Tree is poised to become one of the Willamette Valley’s great vineyards.
