DRY FARMED, BIODYNAMIC
First planted in 1971 by the Kreimeyer, Markley, Welch, and Trenhaile families, Hyland Vineyard spans over 200 acres, with 185 acres under vine, making it one of Oregon’s largest and most historic vineyards. Situated at 600–800 feet in elevation, this south-facing site has long been recognized for its exceptional fruit. Its legacy was solidified in 1985 at the Burgundy Challenge in Paris, where wines featuring Hyland fruit from Sokol Blosser, Yamhill Valley Vineyards, and Veritas placed among the highest-scoring, proving Oregon’s ability to stand alongside Burgundy.
Hyland’s proximity to the Van Duzer Corridor brings cooling maritime winds in summer and moderating warmth in winter, extending the ripening season and ensuring even maturation. The vineyard’s well-draining volcanic Jory soils add depth and purity to the fruit. Walter Scott sources Chardonnay from a single block of own-rooted 108 clone vines, planted in 1979, producing wines that capture the elegance and structure of this distinctive site.
